| Captain America MovieAuthor: Jennifer LongeThere is a Captain America movie which will go into production soon. A few weeks ago, Production Weekly published what they say is the movie's full plot synopsis. Comic Book Movie reproduced it on their website: "Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment... Operation: Rebirth." "After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the 'Super-Soldier Serum' and bombarded by 'vita-rays.' Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and leader of the Avengers." The problem I have with it is that it doesn't say much about the story other than the character's origin, which is not a secret and commonly known. It doesn't say exactly what the plot will be. Will he be fighting against Nazism and Germany, or Communism and Russia, Japan to stop their attacks against the US? Will the movie take place before, during and after World War 2? Yet again it's still in pre-production. Either they haven't chosen a plot yet or want to keep people on their toes. I don't think this is the first Captain America movie. A low budget Captain America movie played by Matt Salinger - Never heard of him afterward - was released in 1990 but due to many delays, it went straight to DVD. Sorry I meant video, they didn't have those back then. In that movie, Captain America got frozen in Alaska and got out of "hibernation" 57 years later (1936 - 1993) then went after his enemy, The Red Skull, who was still alive. I wonder if the movie will have the same setting. If yes, will he wake up half a century later like in the first movie or in the twenty first century - Present time if you prefer -. The only twenty first century war I can see him fight is, well, terrorism! Maybe he'll travel to Afghanistan or something like that. Now that will be funny. The screenplay will be written by Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Incredible Hulk) and David Self (Road To Perdition, Beyond). One of Captain America's co-creators, Jack Kirby, died of heart failure on February 06th 1994 at the age of 77; but he'll still receive writer's credit. The movie will be produced by Avi Arad (The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man). There's still no director attached to it. The biggest question is who will play Captain America? There have been many actors rumored to take the role: first there was Matthew McConaughey - The Wedding Planner wasn't that bad - Leonardo DiCaprio - Who can forget Titanic - even Will Smith - I think that it might have been influenced by the closeness of his race to a certain presidential candidate. I wonder if he winning will increase Will's chance of getting the role. - Anyway no word has been said yet. When everything is set and they are ready to start shooting, we'll find out who the director and actors are. The First Avenger: Captain America is scheduled to hit cinemas on May 06th 2011. We will be able to see the other Avengers a few months later in The Avengers on July 05th 2011. Other Marvel Superhero scheduled to come to theaters are Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine - The title made me wonder: does it mean that we should be on the look out for other movies such as X-Men Origins: Magneto, or Storm or other mutant characters? - on May 01st 2009 and Thor on July 16th 2010.
